- Bus Open Data Service (BODS)
-
The Bus Open Data Service, or BODS for short, is a Department for Transport led initiative to enable new applications, products and services for passengers.
It emerged from the Bus Services Act 2017, which included improvements designed to make commercial bus services more accessible to passengers.
The service launched in February 2020 with a small subset of the data that will ultimately contain. Commercial bus operators must add their network data, in TransXChange format, to BODS by January 2021. In time, BODS will replace the Traveline National Dataset (TNDS).
It uses a combination of a distributed data model and hosted model, meaning that it both hosts datasets and links to data published in different places on the internet, for example on a bus operator’s own website.
The Bus Open Data Service is used by operators, who publish their data, and anyone who wishes to download the data.
